San Diego County Fair……Non Stop Entertainment by David Miller
As the summer approaches, people of San Diego head to the San Diego County Fair to beat the heat and enjoy a day out with the family. Considered as the fifth largest Fair in North America, San Diego County Fair offers lots of exhibits, concerts, contests and lots more to entertain the crowds.
This year the San Diego County Fair, to be held in Del Mar, will celebrate food and its theme is appropriately titled, “Taste the Fun”. It is going to take place from June 11 to July 5 except on three Mondays, i.e. June 14, 21 and 28. Regarded as the largest annual event in San Diego County, it attracts more than 1.2 million visitors. Lets delve a little bit into its history:
History
The fair was started rather innocuously as an agricultural fair in 1880. For several years the fair was held at different locations but in 1936 its location was permanently settled at Del Mar Fairgrounds.
San Diego County fair was previously known by many names such as Southern California Exposition and Del Mar Fair. In fact some locals still refer to it as Del Mar Fair.
Attractions at the fair:
The San Diego County Fair will also host various art exhibitions, photography and digital arts, flower and garden show, wood design exhibits and many more such cultural events. A fair is incomplete without rides. San Diego County Fair offers 39 exciting rides and lots of games to keep the kids occupied. Especially if you are on a San Diego family vacation in the month of June, make it a point to take your kids to the fair. Your kids would love it.
Did you love Star Trek? Then you would like the Star Trek Live which would be an interactive, action packed spectacle designed to leave you spellbound.
Are you a die-hard fan of rock music? Then get ready for the high-voltage performance by Rock Out Karaoke; San Diego’s one of the rocking live performance band. Or check out the comedy nights at the fair where you are guaranteed to fall off your chairs laughing as the stand up comedians send you into splits.
There would be lots of culinary competitions too in which noted chefs would participate and compete with each other. The competition would also be open to culinary students. Especially this year it is going to be extra special as there would be a 2010 Grandstand Lineup which would include various performers enthralling the crowds with their performances such as Julio Iglesias, Lonestar, The Spinners, Kenny Loggins and more. Lots of exciting events keep taking place at the fair, so choose a hotel in San Diego which is centrally located so you can easily come to Del Mar whenever you want to check out events of your choice.
As the fair will take place from June 11 to July 5, for easy commuting to and from the hotel, find a San Diego lodging which is centrally located so you can easily travel to Del Mar. Whenever you are in San Diego during the month of June, make sure to add San Diego County fair in your itinerary. It is a non-stop entertainment.
